ANAK PULAU
We believe raising awareness is key to inspiring change across all generations, borders and oceans. It starts by empowering the younger generation locally. The Anak Pulau programme is a community empowerment initiative, dedicated to the youth of Perhentian Islands, with a vision to create a locally-led conservation task force.

The Anak Pulau consists of the Rapid Response Team and the Junor Diver Project.

The Rapid Response Team mainly focuses on direct action to protect marine ecosystems in Perhentian, while the Junior Diver Project emphasises on practical learning ensuring these young talents have adequate knowledge of underwater ecosystems. PMRS sponsors PADI scuba diving licenses for Anak Pulau members, while further upskilling selected members, enabling them to participate in the conservation of their home island.

GLOBAL VISION, LOCAL IMPACT
MARINE PROTECTION RESPONSE
Through the various stakeholder connections across the islands, we receive reports of marine debris entanglement on coral reefs. Anak Pulau are mobilised in response to these reports for the safe and proper removal ghost nets and other debris.
HABITAT RESTORATION
Anak Pulau are also actively involved in coral reef stewardship. The programme imparts practical knowledge to its members through the restoration of existing coral reefs and monitoring of the growth of artificial reefs around their village.
YOUTH CAPACITY BUILDING
Besides the diving certifications and conservation knowledge, we hope for the Anak Pulau to be advocates for their islands' environment within their own community, as well as beyond.
